The organization now known as Partners Harvard Medical International (PHMI) was founded originally in 1994 as Harvard Medical International (HMI), a subsidiary of Harvard University. HMI was created to extend internationally Harvard Medical School’s tradition of excellence in clinical medicine, medical education, and biomedical research. The organization became PHMI in the spring of 2008 under the terms of an affiliation agreement between Harvard University and Partners HealthCare System. PHMI’s mission is to transform health care globally by being the recognized catalyst for change partnering with committed regional leaders around the world.
